Bowflex Selectech 1090 Adjustable Dumbbells

Matt Sodoma’s rating: 9.5/10 (Recommended to those who can afford it)

The Bowflex SelectTech 1090 Adjustable Dumbbell (Single)is your home gym in about a 2’x2’ space.  These dumbbells are adjustable from 10lbs to 90lbs per dumbbell in increments of 5lbs. Most of us that are doing recreational fitness do not need dumbbells that weigh more than 90lbs.  If you do, then adjustable is probably not your best choice.

I like the Selectech 1090 adjustable dumbbells because they are small, easy to adjust, and allow me to go up to 90lbs to do almost any exercise.  This product is highly versatile, you just have to learn how to use them.  I use the p90x and p90x2 workout programs to go with these dumbbells.  You can learn more about p90x and p90x2 here.

I have two recommendations for these 90lb adjustable dumbbells.  First, they should have rubber-padded grips.  After about your 10th set of curls in p90x2 they tend to dig into your hand a little bit, whether that is a fault of p90x2 or the dumbbells it is hard to say.  But, a simple fix would be gloves, rubber-padded grips, or just sucking it up and building those manly hands.

The other recommendation that is keeping me from giving these a 10/10 is that the dumbbells are long.  Longer than normal dumbbells because each individual weight that is clicked on has space in between.  I think that Bowflex could have done a better job compacting these individual weights, so when you hold the dumbbells in front of you on your quadricepts they do not touch.

Other than those two recommendations, these are a great product for the more hardcore fitness experts.  If you are willing to spend the cash on developing your body, then these adjustable dumbbells are well worth it.
